Revmap in Cambridge

April 27th, 2007

Sorry for the delay since my last post, but I have been away for a couple of weeks and we have been migrating revmap to a new server.

This week I was in the lovely city of Cambridge preparing for some on the ground marketing. Once we get it out I will post some pictures but the response was pretty positive and I took a lot of pictures for the site.

Dynamically find what’s popular

February 28th, 2007

We sneaked something in yesterday that you may have missed but it lets you move the map and search from wherever you end up. You see this before you move the map:

Before you move the map

After you move it a bit you see this:

After moving the map

So now you can go to your favourite spot and find the most popular places and events right there!

New revmap… are you ready for it?

revmap logo

It’s been a while since my last update, and in that time we have made some crucial changes to revmap and as you can see today it’s looking a lot smoother. Here are some of the biggest and best things we have done

  • Complete new redesign - Check out revmap.com we have a new logo (thanks to James Smith) and a more usable search (Matt Roberts helped here again; you are probably wondering whether we actually do any of our own work).
  • Improved add your own for venues and events - So you can easily add your favourite concerts and night club events to your favourite venues.
  • Wiki listings and re-working the details page – This is something we have been wanting to do for a long time, now you can actually change other peoples listings to get the details right, and you don’t have to worry about it if you don’t know exactly where your favourite restaurant is, just throw it in and someone else can put in the address.
  • Improved friend finder system – So you can link together with you friends easier.

We have done so many things that I am sure I am forgetting something, thanks for everyone’s input in getting us to this stage. You are going to be seeing more news from us soon.

Revmap - a quick update…

January 31st, 2007

At revmap hq we have been working hard on some major improvements which we will release over the next week or so. In the works we have:

  • Adding images to submissions - Soon anyone will be able to add images to existing submissions and delete their images.
  • Reworking the front page (again) - Everyone likes the concept, but the design does need to improve, and we have something in mind (thanks to Matt Roberts for his input)
  • A complete new “Add Your Own” system - This is going to be pretty cool. We have been listening to your input and we are going to separate the Events from the Places and allow you to give that vital bits of information like address and telephone number separately.
  • Reworking the Profiles page - We have some great ideas for your profile pages, but I won’t give away what exactly we are doing but you are going to love it.

We have a few more major changes coming up, but I don’t want to give away too much. This is only the beginning. Ideas are always welcome.

Enjoy the rest of your week.

Variety’s the spice of life

January 18th, 2007

At revmap you can find almost anything. And because there is so much happening in London we have tried to make it as easy to find as possible.

Firstly we have something that is pretty unique to revmap. If you click on a subcategory such as restaurants, you see a bunch of popular tags underneath it.

Restaurant Tags

These tags are specifically chosen to try to cover what most restaurants will be like, but obviously at revmap we don’t have access to all the universe so we also let you add your own tags to all the submission. If we see a popular tag we will add it to that subcategory, or you can always contact us to let us know anything vital we may be missing.
The second powerful way to find things on revmap is through the revmap What, Where and When fields. What is a keyword that describes what you are looking for, Where is a location and When is to search for event on certain dates. The when field is very special as you would quickly discover if you click on the ? next to it. Even we have no idea what exactly this When field will support, if you are speaking English and you are talking about a specific date or range then the When will probably work for you, again if you find a when that we should really have but we missed out contact us.

As always revmap is a piece of art in action, and we can only dream to be able to innovate it at the pace feedback comes in, but we always want your feedback and will do our best.

Welcome to the revmap.com Blog

January 13th, 2007

Before I start posting about the revmap.com features and the great things we have coming up. Here is some background on the website and what we aim to achieve.

The revmap.com concept was discovered and developed by Immad Akhund (that would be me) and Tony Yum. What we wanted to achieve was one central place where everyone could find out what’s popular in their area and share their opinion.

We started this website a couple of months ago in November 2006 and for one month now we have had this website functional and have a lot of feedback from our alpha testers. As of yesterday (12th Jan 06) we have removed the site-wide password and it is fully open to the public.

We have a lot of exciting ideas for how to improve the site and will continue to keep things interesting so check back frequently.

We always want to hear what you think, post us a comment or send us some feedback through the contact us page.
